People Helping People Since 1934: Celebrating International Credit Union Day

October 15, 2026 | U.S. Postal Service Federal Credit Union

Every year, credit unions around the world come together to celebrate International Credit Union Day, recognizing a simple but powerful idea: people helping people.

At U.S. Postal Service Federal Credit Union (USPS FCU), that philosophy has been at the heart of everything we do since 1934.  For more than 90 years, we have proudly served the postal community, helping members and their families work toward their financial goals, navigate life’s challenges, and build stronger financial futures.

Today, as we join credit unions around the world celebrating International Credit Union Day, we’re reminded that what makes a credit union special isn’t just the financial services we provide. It’s the people we serve.

A Different Kind of Financial Institution

Unlike traditional banks, credit unions are not-for-profit financial cooperatives owned by their members.  That means we don’t answer to outside shareholders. We answer to you.

Our purpose is to serve our members’ financial interests, not to maximize profits for investors. That cooperative structure allows us to focus on providing competitive financial products, personalized service, financial education, and opportunities that help our members succeed. When you become a member of USPS FCU, you’re not simply opening an account. You’re becoming part of a financial cooperative built around shared values, mutual support, and a commitment to helping one another.

A Steady Signal in a Noisy World

This year’s International Credit Union Day theme, Cooperative Finance: A Steady Signal in a Noisy World, recognizes the importance of trust, stability, and meaningful relationships in an increasingly complicated financial landscape.

With so many financial choices, messages, and uncertainties competing for attention, having a financial institution that puts people first matters.  At USPS FCU, we believe financial services should be accessible, understandable, and centered on the needs of our members.  Whether you’re saving for the future, purchasing a vehicle, managing everyday expenses, or preparing for retirement, our goal is to provide the tools, resources, and support you need to make informed financial decisions.

Proudly Serving the Postal Community Since 1934

Our roots in the postal community are an important part of who we are.  Postal employees and retirees have dedicated their careers to connecting communities and serving others. We are proud to share that commitment to service.  Since our founding in 1934, USPS FCU has grown and evolved, but our purpose has remained the same: to serve the financial needs of our members and their families.  We understand that financial goals change throughout life. From your first savings account to retirement planning and everything in between, we’re honored to be part of your financial journey.

Our Members Make the Difference

International Credit Union Day is also an opportunity to recognize the members of USPS FCU, these are the people who make our Credit Union possible.

To Our Members:

Your membership, trust, and continued support allow USPS FCU to carry forward a tradition of cooperative financial service that has endured for generations.  Every member is part of something bigger: a community where financial success isn’t measured only by profits, but by the difference we make in people’s lives.
