As we commemorate our 90th anniversary, we reflect with pride on our journey as the only nationally chartered credit union available to all United States Postal Service employees across the United States as well as surrounding territories and islands. This significant milestone is a testament to our unwavering commitment to providing exceptional financial services tailored to the unique needs of postal workers and their families.

In Celebration of our 90th Anniversary, we are also excited to invite all of our members to our upcoming annual meeting taking place on Wednesday, July 24th.

A Rich History Rooted in Service

Our credit union was established in 1934 during the Great Depression, a time when the financial landscape was fraught with uncertainty. Recognizing the dire need for reliable financial services among postal employees, a group of visionary postal workers and union representatives came together to create a financial institution that would cater specifically to their community. Their mission was simple yet profound: to provide affordable financial products and services, promote thrift, and offer a source of credit for prudent and productive purposes.

Over the decades, we have grown from a small, local operation based out of the Washington, DC Metropolitan area into a robust, nationwide institution. Our credit union, which uniquely allows us to serve postal employees from coast to coast and in surrounding islands, has enabled us to build a diverse and inclusive membership base. This national reach ensures that postal employees, whether they work in bustling urban centers or remote rural areas, have access to the financial resources they need to thrive.

At the heart of our credit union is an unwavering commitment to our members. Unlike traditional banks, we operate as a not-for-profit cooperative, which means that our primary focus is on serving our members rather than maximizing profits. This member-centric approach allows us to offer competitive rates on loans and savings accounts, lower fees, and a range of financial products designed to meet the specific needs of postal employees.

We understand the unique challenges and opportunities faced by our members. Whether it’s providing affordable mortgage options to help postal workers achieve the dream of homeownership, offering low-interest auto loans, or delivering financial education and planning services, our goal is to support our members at every stage of their financial journey.
 

Innovation and Growth

As we celebrate our 90th anniversary, we also look to the future with a commitment to innovation and growth. The financial services industry is constantly evolving, and we are dedicated to staying at the forefront of these changes to better serve our members. This includes investing in cutting-edge technology to enhance our digital banking platforms, ensuring that our members have secure and convenient access to their accounts, no matter where they are. Some of our recent feats in this field include our roll out of Online Account Opening for new and current members, Apple and & Android Pay as well as constant improvements to our mobile banking app. Digital wallet capabilities and app integrations have also been implemented for our debit and credit card. 

Our expansion of online and mobile banking services is a direct response to the changing needs of our members. With features like remote deposit capture, mobile check deposits, and an extensive network of surcharge free “Allpoint” ATMs, we are making it easier than ever for postal employees to manage their finances on the go. Additionally, our financial education programs through GreenPath continue to evolve, offering webinars, workshops, and personalized counseling to help members make informed financial decisions.
 

A Community of Care

One of the hallmarks of our Credit Union is the strong sense of community that binds our members together. As postal employees, our members understand the importance of service and dedication. This shared commitment to service extends to our Credit Union’s community involvement initiatives. From supporting local charities and community events to providing scholarships for members and their families, we are deeply invested in the communities we serve.
